About us

ViraVector (VV) is a national research infrastructure which provides expert consultation for the safe and effective use of vector technologies, and offers custom design and production services for multiple viral types to the national research community and other stakeholders. VV also assists in performing gene transfer studies in cells and rodents, and supports basic and translational research in vector-based gene therapy to target genetic diseases (see our SERVICES).

We are a team of experts covering all aspects of vector design and production, with more than 20 years of experience in the field of advanced therapies. We have been collaborating with academia and industry to develop new technologies and drive innovation (see our TEAM).

The new VV physical infrastructure, located on the University of Coimbra’s polo I campus, consists of a clean room, a quality control room, two tissue culture rooms and a main laboratory area, which is equipped to meet the requirements of currently offered services (see our FACILITIES and RESOURCES).

VV is included in the National Roadmap for Research Infrastructures of Strategic Interest (RNIE) and integrates the PT-cluster of the European Advanced Translational Research Infrastructure in Medicine (EATRIS ERIC) - platforms ATMP & Biological, Biomarkers.
