COORDINATION
Associate Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Coimbra. He is the Director of ViraVector and Coordinator of the Centre for Innovative Biomedicine and Biotechnology (CiBB), and also serves as President of Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology of the University of Coimbra (CNC-UC). He leads the research group Gene and Stem Cell Therapies for the Brain, focused on understanding mechanisms of neurodegeneration and developing advanced therapies, with particular emphasis on Machado-Joseph disease/Spinocerebellar Ataxia Type 3.
He coordinates the Teaming GeneT-Gene Therapy Center of Excellence Portugal, Excellence Hub GeneH, and ERA Chair GCure projects in gene therapy.
Responsible for the overall operational and scientific management of ViraVector. He is the main point of contact for inquiries regarding products, services, and technical support. He oversees the entire viral vector production workflow, ensuring efficient and reliable operations. He has solid experience in virology and gene delivery strategies using different vector systems, with active collaboration across academia and industry to drive innovation in advanced therapies.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT, FUNDING & SUSTAINABILITY
Member of the strategic management and funding acquisition team for GeneT and ViraVector. She works on the design, coordination, and sustainability of collaborative research consortia in gene therapy, strengthening the infrastructure’s role as a national reference centre in advanced biomanufacturing.
Principal Investigator at CiBB, supporting the strategic alignment of ViraVector with CIBB’s R&D structures. She founded the CNC-UC Research Funding & Management Office and coordinates institutional strategies for funding acquisition, project planning, and long-term sustainability across national and European initiatives.
