CEMMPRE Joins UC’s Welcome Week with Scientific Challenge for New Students, in DEM
As part of the University of Coimbra's 2025 Welcome and Integration Week, the Department of Mechanical Engineering (DEM) organised a special morning dedicated to Research and Development (R&D) Centres, in collaboration with Centre for Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Processes (CEMMPRE) and the Association for the Development of Industrial Aerodynamics (ADAI). On September 11, first-year DEM students were invited to participate in a scientific “Peddy Paper,” designed to introduce them to the research being carried out at both R&D centres. The activity, structured as a team-based challenge, took students through 10 places at CEMMPRE and ADAI. In each local, they were invited to do an activity directly related to the scientific research conducted there. At CEMMPRE, new students participated in the following activities:
- The Productivity Enigma
- Activate the Robot and Discover the Word
- Guess by Senses
- The Biomechanical Challenge
- Sleight of Sight
- Twist if You Can
This initiative offered students a fun and engaging way to explore their academic environment while providing direct exposure to ongoing research projects and facilities. It aimed to demystify science and ignite early interest in research careers. Through this experience, CEMMPRE reinforces its commitment to bridging education and research, inspiring students to engage in scientific discovery from the very beginning of their university journey.
