CEMMPRE researcher participates in the project “Intelligent Computation and Analytics for the Regeneration of Oils”
Integrated member of CEMMPRE is part of the FCTUC team participating in the project “Intelligent Computation and Analytics for the Regeneration of Oils” (ICARO) to predicting the reusability of used lubricating oils using AI
A team of researchers from the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra, coordinated by Marco Reis, a lecturer in the Chemical Engineering Department, is “developing an AI-based tool to predict the regenerability of these oils. We want this process to be carried out quickly, without overloading the laboratories, so the acquisition of information must be agile”, according to the coordinator. Pedro Faia, an integrated member of CEMMPRE, participates in that team.
According to the University of Coimbra, the work “is being carried out in collaboration with Sogilub - Sociedade de Gestão Integrada de Óleos Lubrificantes Usados, Lda, as part of the Intelligent Computation and Analytics for the Regeneration of Oils (ICARO) project”.
Marco Reis says that the project is in its third testing phase and that “in the first two phases we carried out the tests on just one Waste Management Operator, but the plan is to extend it to several. In the future, although very ambitious, we want to study the scenario of this decision being taken right at the collection points, further streamlining the logistics and efficiency of the lubricant oil circularisation process”.
