Researchers of CEMMPRE developed an innovative and sustainable lubrication system
The new lubrication system will increase resistance to wear and corrosion in mechanical applications
Dr. Fábio Ferreira, the leader of the project, is the pioneer in Portugal in implementing HiPIMS as a technique for developing and producing thin films. According to this researcher, the goal was “to develop a more sustainable alternative that does not compromise performance”. The fact that the project had access to the NFFA-Europe infrastructure was fundamental to its success, as Fábio Ferreira notes.
The research involves testing varying concentrations of gadolinium in the doping of DLC films to improve their wear-resistant properties. “This synergy between the Gd-DLC films and ionic liquids offers a promising path towards more efficient and environmentally friendly lubrication systems”, mentioned the PhD candidate Takeru Omiya.
