Since I graduated in Energy Engineering from Pontifícia Universidade Católica - Brazil, my career has always been focused on the job market. After more than five years working in the Brazilian and Spanish energy sector, I felt that I needed a new challenge and decided to go back to the academic environment. I was looking for an initiative that would empower me in giving theoretical concepts in topics such as politics and energy economics, without losing sight of the positive impacts it could cause on the market and society. The Energy for Sustainability (EfS) initiative of the University of Coimbra stands out because of how it treats energy and environmental problems as very current realities. The Master’s program fulfills my expectations by distancing itself from a utopian narrative and approaching practical solutions, presenting techniques of environmental, economic, political and scientific nature, and shortening distances between university, society, and energy market.
With the active participation of teachers and staff seeking workshops and lectures that put students in contact with key stakeholders in the energy sector, among them renowned universities and government representatives, it is expected that EfS contribution will continue being very important and I am sure that will bring the desired change in my career path and in the way academic research can contribute to society.
