Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
The registration for Isolated Curricular Units implies the prior submission of an application, within the deadlines established annually by a Rector's Order.
The application is subsequently analysed by the responsible Organisational Unit (UO), and its acceptance is subject to assessment according to the criteria that have been established.
Only after the approval of the application can the respective registration be carried out.
The application is free of charge when it is submitted within the deadlines established annually by a Rector's Order.
The payment is only due if the registration is completed, and the amount corresponding to the curricular units in which the student is registered will be charged.
No, you do not.
The admitted applicants must pay the amount corresponding to the number of ECTS credits of the curricular units to which they have applied.
The payment must be made within seven consecutive days after the communication of acceptance of the application, in order to validate the registration in the curricular units.
In accordance with paragraph 4 of article 237 of Regulation no. 945/2025, a UC student with no expiration may register for up to a maximum of 30 ECTS credits in curricular units of his/her cycle of studies according to the system of Isolated Curricular Units.
Students who are only registered in isolated curricular units, without being registered in a regular cycle of studies do not have access to the special examination period since it is aimed at regular students of cycles of studies.
However, they may benefit from special rights in certain situations duly substantiated, in accordance with paragraph 3 of Article 132 of Regulation no. 945/2025 (RAUC), namely:
a) A religion, whose day of rest or worship is not Sunday; *
b) Student-Pregnant, Student-Mother or Student-Father;
c) Illness or Accident;
d) Death of Spouse or other relative;
e) Attendance at a police or military authority;
* Regarding the situation of a religion whose day of rest or worship is not Sunday, students can only benefit from the individual recognition of the situation (in accordance with what is provided for in subparagraph b) of paragraph 3 of Article 197).
In accordance with the provisions laid down in paragraph 3 of article 240 in the Regulation no. 945/2025, the successful assessment concerning Isolated Curricular Units may be subject to awarding of ECTS credits if the student subsequently is admitted to a cycle of studies in which these curricular units are part of the respective study programme.
The awarding of ECTS credits is not automatic, and it depends on the:
- Effective admission of the student to the cycle of studies;
- Application of the rules and limits of the awarding of ECTS credits that are provided for in the regulation, namely in subparagraph c) of paragraph 1 of Article 245.
The request for awarding of ECTS credits must be submitted after the student registers for a cycle of studies, by means of a request for awarding of ECTS credits and the respective payment of fee, unless the request is submitted at the moment of the application to the cycle of studies (cf.: paragraph 2 of Article 247 of the aforementioned Regulation).
Yes, you are. The students who are only registered in Isolated Curricular Units are considered to be UC students, in accordance with the provisions laid down in the Academic Regulation (Regulation no. 945/2025), and they benefit from the associated rights, namely the student insurance, the multipurpose certificate and the student card (when applicable to the conditions provided for in the regulation).
