|The University of Coimbra recognises, enhances and encourages its best students in order to enhance their merit, commitment and academic performance, as well as recognise and promote the academic and scientific excellence in the different cycles of studies it provides. Therefore, the University promotes also equal opportunities to complete a course regardless of the economic situation of the students, thus fighting withdrawal and rewarding academic success.|
Merit Awards, Scholarships and Distinctions for national or equivalent status students, and for international students
|“UC à Frente” Award||Award for the Best PhD Thesis in the UC|
BY THE NATIONAL CONTEST OF ACCESS, 1ST TIME AT THE UC
An award aimed at national or equivalent status students, enrolled and registered on a full time basis, for the first time at the University of Coimbra, for Bachelor’s or Integrated Master’s Degree Courses, as a result of the National Contest of Access and Admission to Higher Education.
NEWLY PHD DEGREE HOLDERS
An award aimed at 3rd cycle degree holders who distinguished themselves for the excellence of their research and scientific production carried out along the academic pathway as a PhD student in the University of Coimbra and for the quality of the Thesis they presented.

|Merit Board - 1st year student||Merit Board of the UC|
It stems from the awarding of the “UC à Frente” Award and includes the top 5 per cent students that enrol and register for the first time at the University of Coimbra for Bachelor’s or Integrated Master’s Degree Courses following their admission by means of the National Contest of Access and Admission.
Note: the period set to award it is during the month of December.
This award includes the top 5 per cent students of Bachelor’s, Integrated Master’s and Master’s Degree Courses, who distinguished themselves for their academic pathway in the University of Coimbra at each Organisational Unit and Cycle of Studies.

|Merit Scholarships for National Students||Merit Scholarships for International Students|
It is aimed at the National Students who show an exceptional successful assessment. It is an annual scholarship that is equal to five times the national monthly minimum wage, which awards the students with the highest grades in each Faculty.
The UC enhances its international students’ merit by supporting them with the award of scholarships according to their grades, both when they are admitted to the UC and in the subsequent years.
This distinction is awarded annually to the best international students of each Faculty according to the number of scholarships available.

NEWLY DEGREE HOLDERS THAT CONTINUE THEIR PATHWAY AS STUDENTS AT THE UC
Scholarship aimed at the national or international students who complete a Bachelor’s, Integrated Master’s or Master’s Degree Course at the University of Coimbra with an high merit academic pathway and register in the subsequent academic year at the UC for Master’s or PhD Degree Courses respectively.
Note: the period set to award it is during the month of February.
Scholarships aimed to support students registered in a Higher Education institution, who are “determined to proceed or complete a cycle of an academic career”, the Santander-Future Scholarships have the objective of “contributing to a financial stability that enhances a better academic performance”.

The UC Students have at their disposal, according to the conditions established by the UC Social Services, bursaries and other support services.
The UC Students can benefit from the Leonardo da Vinci, Santander Universidades, SYFF, Millenium BCP scholaships and other scholarships that the UC makes available for several countries.
