Academic Deadlines in 2020/2021

Given the regulations in force, the deadlines for accomplishment of academic procedures of Students in the University of Coimbra, approved by the Rector's Order no. 171/2020, of 4th August, with the amendments introduced by the New Academic Regulation of the UC - Regulation no. 805-A/2020, of 24th September, marked with an asterisk (*),  are published below:

Registration at the University

from 31/08/2020 to 20/09/2020Normal registration's deadline for students registered at the UC in 2019/2020.[Note 1]
from 21/09/2020 to  12/10/2020First period for registration after the deadline for students registered at the UC in 2019/2020, subject to the payment of a fee of 15€.
from 13/10/2020 to  02/11/2020Second period for registration after the deadline for students registered at the UC in 2019/2020, subject to the payment of a fee of 30€.[Note 2]

[Note 1] If during the normal period for registration there are pending assessments, the student has 7 consecutive days after the dissemination of the last assessment to register for the academic year, without paying any fee (no. 9 from Article 10 of the Academic Regulation of the UC - RAUC). Until that communication, the student may register temporarily for the classes and attend the curricular units. 

[Note 2] From 3rd November 2020 onwards, registrations, whose delay did not happen due to the absence of grades, are subject to a  request of appraisal concerning the exception condition because of failure to meet the established deadlines, with a fee of 50€, and a decision of approval or refusal by the direction of the Organisational Unit.

[Note 4] After this deadline, it is no longer possible to change the registration in the curricular units concerned.

* Deadlines changed by the New Academic Regulation of the UC

Tuition fees and Scholarships situations *

On the last day of each month from September to JuneDeadline for payment of the corresponding tuition fee's instalment of a cycle of studies and registration withdrawal [Note 6] without payment of the instalments whose payment is due from the following month onwards.
30/11/2020Deadline for students, who meet the conditions to benefit from the special situation of reduction or exemption of tuition fees and/or other charges, to request the benefit and deliver the corresponding supporting documents.[Note 7] Students who requested a scholarship to the SASUC and students who are Professors or workers in the UC, are exempt from submitting this request.
30/11/2020Deadline for students to deliver a supporting declaration of the status of scholarship holder (or applicant to a scholarship) who meet one of the following conditions: - Students who applied to a scholarship granted by an organisation other than the UC or the SASUC, or -Students who applied to a scholarships' renovation (FCT scholarship holders are not included here).[Note 8]
31/07/2021Deadline for payment of tuition fees, without paying any interest, for Students holding a scholarship, applicants who applied for a scholarship granted by an organisation other than the UC, and applicants who applied for that scholarships' renovation who do not know the decision yet or did not get the scholarship.[Note 9]

[Note 5] International Student with an application in 2020/2021 and who was not registered in 2019/2020 to whom the payment of the 4th to the 10th instalment is applied, in the months from March to September, taking into account that the first instalments (30 per cent of the tuition fee) are paid at the time of the registration. In the academic year 2020/2021 the tuition fee payment plan in 10 instalments, from September to June, applies to all the Students of Cycles of Studies, with the necessary differences.

[Note 6] The request for withdrawal must be formalised, in writing, by means of InforEstudante.

[Note 7] If the registration at the university takes place after 30/11/2020, the Student must submit the request within the 15 working days following that registration.

[Note 8] Students whom the scholarship was rejected/denied must pay the tuition fee or the already due instalments within 30 days after the formal communication of that decision, and may change their registration or submit a withdrawal of studies with the inherent adjustment of the tuition fee's payment plan. There is no possibility of withdrawing without paying tuition fees when the scholarship is accepted/granted.

[Note 9] After this deadline the penalties provided for in the regulation will be applied concerning the fee’s payment default.

Expirations *

31/08/2021Deadline for submission of requests of non-expiration in the academic year 2021/2022 in accordance with the situations laid down in the regulation, for students registered in 2020/2021 (National or Equivalent status Student).*

* Extension of ther deadline up to 7 consecutive days after the release of the last grade of the academic year, if there are pending grades within this deadline, in accordance with the new Academic Regulation of the UC (RAUC).

Exams in Special or Extraordinary Examination Period

[Note 10] This Examination Period includes the Exceptional Examination Period for improvement of grades of curricular units of the 2nd semester of the academic year 2019/2020, in accordance with the measures adopted within the scope of the COVID-19 scenario

Taking into consideration the changes in the academic calendar by the Rector's Order N.º 27/2021 of 1st February, the Note IV of the Academic Calendar should be checked. This note mentions that The exceptional examination period for improvement of grades of curricular units of the 2nd semester of the academic year 2019/2020, previously scheduled for March 2021, will be included in the normal, supplementary and special examination periods.

PhD Thesis, Thesis project, Master's Dissertation or similar

Notes:

[Note 11] The deadline for registration in the Special Examination Period is the same as the submission deadline, given the fact that the procedure of submission of Master's Dissertations, or similar ones, is accomplished by means of InforEstudante.

[Note 12] This deadline may be extended until 31/10/2021, whenever the Organisational Unit does not have the possibility of carrying out the defences until 30/09/2021, and this information must be communicated to the Academic Management Services (SGA)

[Note 13] The submission of the Thesis after this date implies the registration for the academic year 2021/2022 and the payment of the instalments until the month of the submission, if the request for admission to PhD exam is submitted with all the necessary documents.

Additional Information:

  1. The academic procedures covered by the current dispatch are submitted by the student by means of InforEstudante.
  2. Besides the deadlines established by this dispatch, the student must also comply with the individual situations’ deadlines established for the recognition of status and special rights, regarding the submission of documents.
  3. The application deadlines in 2021/2022 are published in a specific calendar to be disseminated by means of the official website of applications of the UC, until January 2021.
  4. If the student is covered by an exceptional situation or condition that impedes compliance with the deadlines or with a defined rule, he/she can submit a request for appraisal of an exceptional condition, which is subject to the payment of 50€. The request has to be mandatorily substantiated and include the supporting documents that attest the status or condition mentioned. This substantiation is crucial for the analysis and possible authorisation. If the student does not substantiate and/or does not present supporting documents attesting the exceptional situation, the request will be rejected.
