The "Eye in the Sky" research project is based on the use of a high-altitude balloon to detect and monitor rural fires, among various other uses that can occur before, during and after a rural fire. Operating the balloon at high altitude not only gives an integrated view of the perimeter of the fire and the burnt area, but also makes it possible to reinforce the communications system in the theatre of operations, serving as a signal repeater antenna. What's more, this solution allows for an operating time of several hours, without interfering with other aerial resources used to manage the incident. In simplified terms, the Eye in the Sky solution can be compared to a mini-satellite dedicated to an incident or an area of interest.

The event will feature a presentation of the project and its results, followed by a demonstration session of lifting the balloon and capturing and transmitting images to a ground station and checking the reinforcement of the SIRESP signal for communications. At the end, there will be a light lunch to continue the dialogue between those present.
