Buildings' acoustics

OVERVIEW

This test aims to determine the sound insulation index, to air conduction and percussion sounds, between the various compartments of a building or the air insulation of the building facade in order to verify compliance with the provisions of the RRAE.

The existence of greater or lesser airborne insulation can affect the way we hear the voices of neighbors as they talk or listen to music, and also the noise produced outside. While the degree of insulation to percussive sounds affects the way we hear the neighbors' footsteps or the closing of doors and drawers, etc.

Evaluation of worker's exposure to noise

OVERVIEW

This test aims to assess the daily personal exposure of workers to noise, as well as to determine the maximum peak sound level values to which workers are subjected during working hours.

The test comprises several separate measurements and analyses made, whenever possible, in the absence of the worker, by placing the microphone at the position corresponding to the worker's most exposed ear. When the worker's presence is required, the microphone should be placed between 0.1 m and 0.3 m in front of his nearest ear.

Evaluation of worker's exposure to vibrations

OVERVIEW

This test aims to determine the level of vibration to which each worker is subjected in their daily activity. This exposure can be total (human body) or partial (hand-arm system).

Nuisance evaluation

OVERVIEW

This test can have two distinct purposes: nuisance determinatation and long duration average sound level determination.

The nuisance determination aims to evaluate the noise levels emitted outdoors during daytime, evening or nighttime, caused by the operation of permanent noisy activities or nuisance noise (neighborhood).

The long duration average sound level determination aims to collect acoustic data of a given area in order to its classification as a sensitive or mixed area by the Municipalities, complying with the legislation in force.

Sound level characterization in vehicles (indoor)

OVERVIEW

This test aims to characterize the sound level inside a heavy passenger vehicle in order to ensure its qualification according to the criteria set forth in the legislation in force.

This test consists in the simulation and measurement of several noisy situations (considered unfavorable) inside a heavy passenger vehicle. This test is conducted on a track.

Determination of the acoustic property of materials

OVERVIEW

This test aims to determine the acoustic property of materials.

Air Renewal Rate Determination

OVERVIEW

This test aims to measure the air renewal rate inside the passenger compartment of a heavy passenger vehicle.

Determination of Masses and Dimensions

OVERVIEW

This test aims to determine the masses and dimensions of motor vehicles, ensuring uniformity of criteria between the various Member States, and, consequently, the free movement and trade of these vehicles in the European space.

The test is conducted on the Industrial Aerodynamics Laboratory premises or on the track.

Maximum speed determination

OVERVIEW

This test aims at determining the maximum speed of motor vehicles. The vehicle is equipped with a tachometric fifth wheel, which will determine the distance traveled. The measurement of the distance associated with the equipment's internal clock allows the instantaneous speed to be determined. The test is conducted on a track.

Wheelchair stability test

OVERVIEW

This test aims to determine the stability of wheelchairs on heavy passenger vehicles.

Lateral stability test

OVERVIEW

This test aims to evaluate the rollover resistance of tank vehicles of categories N and O. To do so, a constant radius curve is simulated, made at constant speed by a loaded vehicle at its maximum load. This simulation is made on a tilting platform, where the vehicle is slowly tilted to an inclination of at least 23º.

Testing the braking system on motor vehicles

OVERVIEW

This test aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the braking system in motor vehicles according to the qualification criteria set forth in the legislation in force.

The test is composed of track tests, dynamic and/or static. The dynamic tests consist of successive braking under certain conditions, and the static tests consist of measuring the response time or measuring the capacity of the reservoirs

Internal Combustion Engine Testing

OVERVIEW

A system was developed for data acquisition and test bench control that allows high reliability of results and the storage of a large amount of data.

Performance of tests on motors with measurement of:

  • Power (max 230kW)
  • Torque
  • Rotation (max 13000rpm)
  • Consumption
  • Blow-by
  • Emissions

Noise Maps

OVERVIEW

Noise maps are strategic tools for analysis and planning that allow the integration of noise prevention and control in Spatial Planning, facilitating the dissemination and public access to information.

The maps can be drawn from two methodologies: measurements made in the field on a pre-established grid of points; or from a computational calculation process validated by experimental measurements.

Sound level in motor vehicles

OVERVIEW

This test aims to characterize the sound level in motor vehicles in order to ensure its qualification according to the criteria set forth in the legislation in force.

This test is conducted on a track. The vehicle should make repeated passes in front of the sound level meter, thus determining the sound level emitted.
