Rationale Red Global Conference

In the contemporary global context, a nuanced understanding of religious diversity has become indispensable. Diversity constitutes a conceptual framework that enables the identification of human beings within their distinct cultural, contextual, and existential spheres of belonging. This stands in contrast to the anthropological vacuity often promoted by certain universalist paradigms. The dialogical potential inherent in such recognition allows a reflexive construction of identity, through the ongoing process of dialogical interaction and mutual acknowledgment.

The affirmation of identity necessarily invokes the notion of otherness. Only when cultures, communities, and individuals are capable of taking critical distance from themselves can they engage in a productive encounter with others, open to dialogue, exchange, and the recognition of difference. Central to religious diversity is the notion of knowing, a term that entails the pursuit of understanding through study and critical reflection other persuasions, with the aim of transcending the long-standing prejudices historically imposed upon religions and their histories. Ultimately, religious traditions should not be conceived merely as rigid systems of dogma; rather, they embody dynamic forces capable of transforming the trajectories of their own histories and contributing positively to human processes that foster and enrich coexistence.

Objectives

This is the central objective of the First Interdisciplinary Conference organized by the Red Global Project. The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s (EMJM) program—pioneering in its thematic orientation—offers a distinctive approach to the study of religious identities and traditions, emphasizing their intricate interactions with the processes of globalization

Another objective of this conference is to advocate for the ReD Global Project, opening the conversation with its academic and non-academic partners so as to address challenges, ponder approaches and establish a road map for future collaboration, in both the professional and academic spheres.

The conference

The contemporary religious and cultural multiverse demands a thorough and rigorous scholarly examination, one that not only facilitates a comprehensive understanding of the issues involved but also responsibly cultivates the next generation of scholars to advance renewed interdisciplinary approaches to this phenomenon. Accordingly, the conference backed by a consortium of nine universities and a wide representation of non-academic partners will explore a range of thematic dimensions through five panels, each convened by distinguished international experts, covering the Institutional, Global affairs, Legal, Religious and Textual angles.
