Since 2014, each month of May has started with the LVDI CONIMBRIGENSES. This annual celebration of classical culture was created following the participation of Classical Studies lecturers and students from the University of Coimbra in the European Grundtvig Project – Ludi Europaei Classici (2013-1-ES1-GRU06-73280 4). This project, funded by the European Commission, has the Asociación de Cultura Clásica Ludere et Discere de Sagunto as its parent organisation, which has provided the necessary training for the LVDI CONIMBRIGENSES to function.
With the fundamental aim of disseminating classical culture to primary and secondary school students, the LVDI CONIMBRIGENSES last whole days (either one or more), being dedicated to workshops on various topics (ancient writing, mythology, ceramics, Latin and Greek languages, Roman games, etc.) and classical theatre, with performances of Graeco-Latin comedies and tragedies.
The main partners of this initiative are the Machado de Castro National Museum, the Ruins of Conímbriga, and the Roman Ruins of Bodadela, which host the participating students on their premises.
It is worth noting that the LVDI CONIMBRIGENSES are an intrinsically collaborative project, involving a significant number of undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students from FLUC, all of whom receive timely training from teachers, students, and former pupils. These trainers have been involved in the initiative for a long time, being thus able to mentor the younger students during each edition. It is also a project that is reinvented year after year, adding something new every season.
In addition to the annual LVDI CONIMBRIGENSES, the various Classical Culture Workshops are available to pay visits to primary and secondary schools across the country throughout the school year.
