Synopsis
The truth is not immediately visible; it may be hidden, manipulated or simply misinterpreted. In this tragicomedy, the truth lies somewhere in between.
In our production, we highlight Helena's various facets, with the aim of humanising her. Seemingly powerless by nature, the character regains her strength throughout the play and ends with a tragic ending for others, becoming what she criticised. She does not do this alone: her husband, Menelaus, a great Greek general, is obsessed with his war memories and happily embarks on Helena's plans, without realising that wars are often the result of greater struggles, and how fragile mortal memory is.
Meanwhile, the Chorus accompanying Helen constantly supports her, each with their own personality and different perception of war – more or less pessimistic. In addition, we shed light on the comic aspect of the performance and the various Helens, Menelaus, Theonoes and Theoclymenos necessary for a lie. In the end, the audience can only trust the Chorus and their own perceptions, as Helena will manipulate anyone to get back home.
What are we left with when the truths we fight for are nothing more than illusions of greater powers?
