To register at the Welcome Centre, simply contact the Research Centre that will be hosting you or reach out directly to the
Welcome Centre for Visiting Researchers
You will then be asked to fill in a digital form, which must include a copy of an identification document, the letter of acceptance/registration, and a colour photograph.
Pre-registration:
Pre-registration on the Welcome Centre for Visiting Researchers platform is handled by the DRI, once the necessary data for the visiting researcher's (VR) pre-registration has been received by email (dri.cm@uc.pt).
Data required for pre-registration on the WCVR:
- VR's full name;
- VR's place of birth;
- Organisational unit receiving the VR;
- Department;
- Research centre;
- Responsible person at the UC;
- VR's personal email address;
- Estimated dates of VR arrival and departure.
Next procedure:
After pre-registration, the platform generates and sends an automatic notification with an access link to the researcher's email address in order to complete registration and submit the necessary documents (ID/passport, photograph, and acceptance document).
The DRI is notified by the platform once the researcher has completed their registration and follows up on the services requested by the researcher.
The DRI contacts the researcher and sends the information needed to prepare the stay at the UC, namely:
- Accommodation;
- Registration with the NHS;
- School information (schools and creches) for children;
- Issuing official acceptance documents for visa applications;
- Sending information on visa applicants to the DGES (which reports it to the consular authorities in order to speed up the issuing of visas).
Extension of the research period:
If the research period is extended, the Visiting Researcher will have to acquire a new acceptance document with their supervisor, and send it to the DRI (via the address dri.cm@uc.pt) within a month. Thus, the DRI may request this information beforehand and create a new card.
