Research
The Geosciences Centre of the University of Coimbra (CGeo), created in 1975, presents a project for 2025-2029 with the following strategic guidelines: reinforcing the presence in the European research space through excellence in research and teaching, the intensification of connections with society and the surrounding environment, and the promotion of rational, responsible and thorough management of resources. It is articulated in 3 Greater Thematics:
It focuses on fundamental geosciences and deepens our understanding of the complex interactions between the various terrestrial geosystems and their role in the formation and evolution of the planet, particularly the continental crust and life.
It focuses on solutions for the responsible use of geological resources, linking socio-economic and environmental perspectives throughout the due cycle of resources, from prospecting for raw materials to recycling, strongly aligned with the objectives of the EU and UNESCO.
Works as a cross-cutting theme, bridging the gap between science and society through interactions with the former two, according to three programs: geoarchaeology and prehistory; territories and integrated landscape management; and geopatrimony and geoparks.
The five key contributions here.
