3A. Geoarchaeology and Prehistory
Delves into the core of Quaternary studies, focusing on climate-environment oscillations andhuman adaptations, with particular emphasis on transition processes (e.g., late middlePaleolithic/MSA, Neolithic, or contact societies) and rupestrian archaeology (e.g., earliest art inEurope and Africa or schematic art). The main research regions include SW Europe, sub-Saharan Africa, and sub-Amazonian South America.
3B. Territories and Integrated Landscape Management
3B. concentrates on assessing landscape management in both past and contemporary societies, addressing challenges within the SDGs agenda and promoting a geoethical approach to landmanagement. It develops protocols and indicators focused on geological and geomorphological slowchange drivers and human interactions beyond short-term variations, also incorporating applicationssuch as gaming, storytelling, and AI.
3C. Geoheritage and Geoparks
3C highlights the significant role of CGeo in promoting geological heritage across three main lines: constructing geoheritage concepts and analytical models that establish a scientific and transdisciplinary foundation, applied in various contexts and countries; supporting the expansion of the UNESCO Geoparks Network (including a UNESCO Chair at UTAD); developing geoconservation solutions.
