DCV participates in European project for wild pollinator conservation
The Department of Life Sciences is part of the new European project BeeConnected SUDOE – Restoring Green Infrastructure for Pollinators in Fragmented Landscapes, funded by the European Union (Interreg SUDOE).
In Portugal, the project involves João Loureiro and Sílvia Castro, professors at the Department of Life Sciences (DCV), in partnership with Coimbra Municipality.
Over the next three years, ecological restoration actions will be implemented in urban and peri-urban areas of Coimbra, including the creation of green stepping stones, sowing of native nectar-rich plants, and installation of shelters for pollinating insects. These actions aim to reconnect fragmented habitats and promote biodiversity resilience.
Coordinated by the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, BeeConnected brings together scientific institutions and public authorities from Portugal, Spain, and France to foster pollinator conservation across the SUDOE region.
