LICENTIATE IN LAW

1st Cycle of Studies in Law

COORDINATOR

Prof. Sónia Mariza Florêncio Fidalgo
Coordinator
Prof. Miguel João Almeida Costa
Coordinator of the Erasmus Department

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The 1st cycle of studies in Law aims to provide students with a set of basic legal knowledge: the tools that law practitioners need to know, whatever their area of work. It also provides the most rigorous and up-to-date notions that national and foreign legal science has defined. The aim of the programme is for students to acquire the ability to select and interpret social phenomena, qualifying them from the point of view of the law. The 1st cycle lawyer must also be able to communicate decisions and the rationale underlying them, since legal solutions must convince their recipients if they are to be effective. The aim of the 1st cycle is also to encourage students to take up specialisation courses in the future, since the law has expanded into new areas, making it necessary for law practitioners to return to school for specialised training.
