PhD Programme Overview and Objectives
The PhD Programme in Business Management aims to foster intellectual stimulation and provide the resources necessary for excellence in knowledge creation. To achieve this, the programme focuses on developing competencies that enable critical evaluation of business management issues and foster original contributions to the field. To accomplish these aims, the programme's curriculum includes a set of courses designed to help doctoral students develop expertise in their chosen areas of management and identify gaps in existing knowledge. Additionally, it offers courses on research methodologies, covering both commonly used quantitative and qualitative tools. Beyond its core structure, the programme features a series of seminars on specialised research methodologies. These seminars enrich students' methodological toolkits, enhancing their ability to publish impactful research throughout their academic careers.
The programme's lecturers, who teach and supervise theses in areas such as Strategy, Finance & Accounting, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Quality, Operations Management, and Entrepreneurship, bring diverse expertise gained from training at universities across different countries. This diversity enriches the programme with a unique combination of knowledge. They also possess extensive experience in supervising scientific work, actively participate in international conferences, and publish in journals indexed by leading international institutions.
To enhance the programme's internationalisation and improve the quality of doctoral research, the programme annually invites distinguished international academics with exceptional research track records to provide feedback on students' thesis projects.
Testimonies
Pursuing a PhD in Business Management at the University of Coimbra has been a unique and enriching experience. This is not only because it is one of the most traditional and highly regarded universities in Europe, but also, and primarily, because it has offered me a truly remarkable experience that I will carry with me for life.
The PhD in Management at Feuc is an excellent programme for mid-career professionals interested in making a scientific inquiry about various issues. The programme is well structured with world-class faculty members who would go beyond the call of their duty to help every student. One also has access to every facility a student needs. Most importantly, the professors are always ready to help with our inquiries and research doubts. Thesis supervisors are subject experts in our chosen research field. Often these supervisors play the role of a friend, a guide, and a family for every student. I feel lucky to have met one of the best supervisors in my student life. That being said, we don't just receive feedback from the supervisors, as the school has a way of keeping students on track with our research through various seminar platforms. These activities would allow us to present our research ideas to foreign professors and in-house professors to review our work and give us timely feedback. Therefore, this programme is one of the best options that one could ask for.
The PhD programme in Business Management was a natural choice for me due to the institution's prestige and the quality of its teaching staff. The seminars and workshops, often featuring internationally renowned lecturers, enrich the curriculum and allow students to tailor their learning to their interests and needs. The strong relationships between lecturers and students, combined with the diverse backgrounds and origins of the student body, create a multicultural and open environment. This exchange of experiences fosters an ideal atmosphere for knowledge development and personal growth.
