Maria Elisa da Silva Serra

She has a Degree in Chemistry (1984) and a Master’s Degree in Chemistry (1989) from the University of Coimbra. After concluding a Doctorate in Chemistry at the same University (1998) she became an Auxiliary Professor in the Chemistry Department where she has taught subjects at the Bachelor’s degree level, namely: Organic Chemistry, chemistry labs, chemistry synthesis labs, and Applied Stereoscopy. Her research interests are focused on the area of organic synthesis, more specifically in catalytic enantioselective synthesis, developing ligands and chiral catalysers for alkylation and trimetilsililzation reactions. One of the most recent areas of interest is in the synthesis of the radiopharmaceuticals predecessors to be applied as non-invasive detectors of in vivo tumour hypoxia.
