Did you know?

The Social Services of the University of Coimbra (SASUC) support students with various direct and indirect social support measures.

Direct social support measures include, for example:

The Social Support Fund (FAS), set up by the UC in 2004 with the dual aim of subsidising the tuition fees of non-scholarship students with obvious economic difficulties and to deal with proven emergency situations, and is broken down into two forms of support: the FAS Tuition Fees and the FAS Emergency Aid.

Indirect social support measures :

The Student Social Support Programme through part-time activities (PASEP) was created by the UC in the 2013/2014 academic year with the aim of supporting the neediest students. It is a form of social support that consists of providing offers of part-time activities, to be carried out in organic units/services of the UC, whose retribution translates into the attribution of social benefits.

The student community is offered accommodation in university residences spread throughout the city and close to the various faculties.

Encouraging volunteering is one of the University of Coimbra's priorities for its academic community. On the UC Volunteering page you can find out about all the volunteering initiatives with open applications, past initiatives, information on partner institutions and the volunteering charter of principles.

The UC carries out a number of projects with a social impact, in partnership with Coimbra City Council, Non-Governmental Organisations and/or social economy organisations in this area. For more information, see the UC Sustainability Reports.

The UC has a bank of academic clothes available to the entire student community, where academic clothes can be donated and rented for just a deposit and the cost of washing, provided by Social Services of the University of Coimbra. Students on scholarships and beneficiaries of the Social Support Fund (FAS) have priority when it comes to ordering.
