research team develops refrigerators and freezers for areas without access to
electricity. The project aims to implement the products in Sub-Saharan Africa,
where around 600 million people have no access to electricity, contributing to
the refrigeration of vaccines and minimising food waste. |  |
 | Scientists develop new material that can replace plastic. A research team led by the University
of Coimbra (UC) has developed a a plastic substitute from nanocellulose
combined with a fibrous mineral (Cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs)), which is fully
biodegradable and biocompatible, with various uses, such as food packaging and
electronic printing, opening the door to the manufacture of more sustainable
plastics. |

the EC2U Consortium Science
Battle, a competition between scientists
and researchers from four universities of the Alliance: UC, Portugal;
University of Iasi, Roménia; University Jena, Germany; and the University of
Salamanca, Spain. |  |

euros. "Bridging
Musical Heritage: Shaping creativity today by reconnecting cultures from the
past" aims to recover rare music manuscripts from the 16th and 17th
centuries stored in the General Library of the University of Coimbra and make
them able to be played and heard. |
