WCCCEREMONYThe University of Coimbra hosted the 37th WCC Award Ceremony.  The prestigious Albert Einstein, José Vasconcelos and Leonardo da Vinci Awards were delivered today  at Sala dos Capelos, during a solemn session held in Portugal for the first time.
Study led by the University of Coimbra suggests a paradigm shift in the treatment of staph infections. The study, published in the scientific journal Nature Communications, reveals that the Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) bacterium has a predominant intracellular lifestyle, which may justify changing the clinical criteria for choosing antibiotics. A project ldeveloped at the Department of Informatics Engineering (DEI), has proved that with the use of intelligent tools it is possible to detect whether a programmer is understanding the software he/she is working on, and help prevent possible bugs. 
Domingos Xavier Viegas, full professor at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra (FCTUC) has received the "Ember Award for Excellence in Wildland Fire Science", from the International Association of Wildland Fire (IAWF), the first European scientist to ever receive this award. premioXavierViegas
