This week our UC Global arrives earlier. We wish everyone a great bank holiday!
A study conducted by the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC) of the UC and Spain Cajal Instute -  neuroscience research center - is focusing on the effect of cannabis in Alzheimer disease in mice, disclosing that some of the effects of the plant may help improve energy consumption by the brain, which lacks energy in this disease. 
In order to mark the 200 years of Domingos Vandelli’s death, the Science Museum of the UC hosts today at 4 pm the lecture “Evocação da Vida e Obra de Domingos Vandelli, (1730-1816), nos 200 anos da sua morte”, |”Evoking the Life and Work of Domingos Vandelli, (1730-1816), on the 200th anniversary of his death”, conducted by António Amorim da Costa, Emeritus Professor of the Department of Chemistry of FCTUC. In the framework of the Talks BiblioAlimentaria, the lecture is followed by the tasting of varied delicacies. Free entrance.

Writing scientific papers in English may not be an easy task for a non-native speaker. The Faculty of Psychology and Science Education has created the course Escrita Científica em Inglês para as Ciências Sociais |Scientific Writing in English for Social Sciences, which will take place from the 7th June to the 14th July. Registrations are open until the 31st May. All info here.
On the 27th and 28th May, The Faculty of Economics of the UC hosts the Colóquio Internacional  Trabalho, Produção e Lutas Sociais no Século XXI, with Juan José Castillo from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid as main speaker. Registrations are available here
The talks “Diálogos e Perspetivas sobre o Urbano”|"Dialogues and Perspectives on the Urban" continue at the Centre for Social Studies . On May 31st, at 6 pm, João Paulo Providência and Luís Quintais debate the theme “Antropologia, Arquitetura e Arte: a Memória como instrumento de investigação” “Anthropology, Architecture and Art: Memory as a research tool”. If you like challenges, the Coimbra University Stadium  suggests the 2nd UNESCO Peddy Paper. On the 2nd June, at 7 pm, teams of 3 to 5 members will walk a route between the Stadium and Uptown Coimbra. The winning team will receive tickets for a show at TAGV. Gather 2 to 4 friends and register for free by sending an email to estadio@uc.pt .
The Abril 25th Documentation Centre will be closed from tomorrow on for a period of around two months, in order to move its headquarters to Colégio da Graça. The reopening of the reading room or for consulting archives will be duly announced.
