More energy efficient cars and planes, 20 to 30% lighter, and with a competitive price is the great goal of the European Project ComMUnion, which includes the University of Coimbra.
Tomorrow, Luis Sepúlveda will receive the Eduardo Lourenço 2016 Prize, awarded by the Centro de Estudos Ibéricos. The award ceremony will take place at 3 pm at the Biblioteca Municipal Eduardo Lourenço, Guarda.
Still tomorrow it will be possible to watch Jupiter, Mars and Saturn at the Geophysical and Astronomy Observatory of the University of Coimbra. The initiative starts at 9:30 pm at the Cúpula Astronómica Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian.
Friday brings us another event at 10:15 pm: jazz at Quebra Costas with the HotClub Trio. It is the first concert of the Festival Quebra Jazz.
The 6th International Festival of Portuguese Polyphony starts today until the 10th of July, with 8 concerts, 8 guided tours, a seminar and other events. The Festival will take place in 8 cities and Coimbra will receive it tomorrow at the Santa Cruz Monastery. Free entrance.

On Sunday at 6 pm you may listen to Beethoven's 9th Symphony at Sé Velha, performed by Orquestra do Norte, Coro Sinfónico Inês de Castro, Orfeon Académico de Coimbra and choir singers from all over the country. Artistic director: Conductor Artur Pinho Maria.
In the context of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Social Services of the University of Coimbra (SASUC), the conference "Perspectives for Social services in Higher Education" will take place on the 8th Jult at the Rectorship Auditorium. Free entrance, with mandatory registration.
The Centre for Functional Ecology is organising the first Summer School of field ecology aimed to 1st cycle students of the areas of Biology and Environment. Registrations are open until the 8th July and limited to 25 participants.
The General Council of the UC has approved the Consolidated Management and Accounts Report of 2015, in a meeting held on 27th June. The document includes the most relevant information of the activity of the Public Group University of Coimbra during the year 2015, highlighting some indicators in the mission strategic pillars and in the areas of sustainability. In what concerns resources, the report includes information about the consolidated economic and financial activity of the group, as well as the main data about human resources.
