The international ranking  U-Multirank awarded the University of Coimbra once again the maximum score (“Very Good”) in the areas of Research, Transfer of Knowledge and Internationalisation. According to the different international Higher Education rankings, the UC is an elite member among the best Institutions in the world and stands in the top 500 of the most relevant rankings.  

Today we congratulate the UC researcher and Professor Penousal Machado, who was awarded the  EvoStar Award for Outstanding Contribution to Evolutionary Computation in Europe 2016. This is the most important award in the field of Bio-Inspired Computation given in Europe.

It may not seem like it, but summer is getting closer, and so is the Universidade de Verão/Summer University (UV), where High School students spend a week at the University of Coimbra. The programmes of the 22 areas of knowledge are already available and registrations open on 15 April. 

A healthy mind in a healthy body. At the UC we want our students to have a healthier lifestyle. Thus, the Development project for the Sports Practice at the University Residences will start on 13 April. 

Do you have an innovative business model which you would like to give a boost to?The Model2Market may be the answer. A business models strengthening programme resulting from a Higher Education initiative, to which entrepreneurs of any company from Latin America, Spain or Portugal may apply until 15 April. 

Do you already have plans for the weekend? We suggest the following: a show by the Orfeon Académico de Coimbra and the Orchestra "Opus 21" will play "The Passion of Christ", conducted by Maestro Artur Pinheiro and staged by Ana Bárbara Queirós. "In the Bible: the Via Crucis" takes place at St. José's Church, next Sunday, 10 April, at 5 pm.

The importance of books and reading in citizens' education during the 19th and 20th centuries is the theme of the conference cycle "Livro, Leitura, Leitores Nos Debates Culturais - Séculos XIX e XX|Book, Reading, Readers in Cultural Debates- 19th and 20th centuries."The event takes place at the Faculty of Humanites on 12 April.
