On the 1st of March we celebrate the 730th anniversary of our University! At 10h30 am takes place the official celebration ceremony at "Sala dos Capelos". In the evening, at 9 pm you can enjoy the concert "Universis: 730 anos da Universidade de Coimbra" by the Academic Orchestra of the UC, at Gil Vicente Academic Theatre. 

An international team led by Researchers from the University of Vienna, Harvard University and the University of Florence, Italy, with Daniel Fernandes (from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the UC) as Principal Investigator is filling in the gaps with the largest study to date of the genetic history of ancient populations of Sicily, Sardinia and the Balearic Islands, increasing the number of individuals with reported data from 5 to 66. The results reveal a complex pattern of immigration from Africa, Asia and Europe which varied in direction, and its timing, for each of these islands.

The General Library of the University of Coimbra hosts on the 29th February at 10h30 am the conference “Los Estudios Semíticos en las Universidades Europeas más antíguas”, conducted by Efrem Yldiz Sadak, from the University of Salamanca.

The 22nd UC Cultural Week kicks off on March 1 with shows, workshops and exhibitions. Until 15 March, the city will have even more cultural offer. https://www.uc.pt/semanacultural

As part of the Promotion of Scientific Culture, and to mark the 730th anniversary of the University of Coimbra, the scientific community of the University of Coimbra is invited to actively participate in the celebration. Thus, starting on the 1st March, applications will be open to support activities or events for the Promotion of Scientific Culture that cross different areas of knowledge, taking place from April to October 2020.
