Meanwhile many new international students are already here. This year over 1,400 new foreign students will study at the oldest university in Portugal, maintaining the growing trend of recent years.

After the European Universities Games, Coimbra receives another large event. From September 12 to 14, the Faculty of Sciences of Sport and Physical Education of the University of Coimbra (FCDEFUC) will organize the 15th annual conference on the European Athlete-Student (Dual Career Network).

Researcher Rui Curado Silva, from the Physics Department of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the UC, is part of the team responsible for the scientific experience that was launched on September 4 on a platform of NASA's High Altitude Sudent Platform (HASP).

The Academic Orchestra of the University of Coimbra (OAUC) begins the academic year 2018/2019 with a new straining programme from 16 to 23 September. Registrations are already open for violin, viola, cello, double bass, trumpet, bassoon, oboe and percussion.

Until Saturday, Coimbra hosts until Saturday the 10th Iberian Congress on Water Management and Planning (X Congresso Ibérico de Gestão e Planeamento da Água) "Fluxos de água, fluxos de vida: 20 anos de continuidade de uma nova cultura da água". Two decades since the first Iberian Congress in Zaragoza have contributed to the construction of a new water culture.

Registrations are open for the Business Ideas Contest of the Platicemar project - Consolidation Platform of the TICE Sector and Entrepreneurship in Ocean Economy. The Interdisciplinary Research Institute will host a briefing session, on September 13, at 10:00 am. Participation is free, upon registration.

On Friday night don't miss the tribute concert to Rui de Alarcão, former Rector of the UC at Paço das Escolas, by the Orquestra Clássica do Centro. The concert is part of the series "Serenatas com a Lua por cerca", which takes the Classical Orchestra of the Center to various locations in the area classified as UNESCO World Heritage Site.
