Nineteen students sanctioned for plagiarism and 58 punished for fraud are the result of reinforcing the fight against these disciplinary infractions, since the entry into force of the Student Disciplinary Regulation of the University of Coimbra at the beginning of the 2012/13 academic year. "All cases proven have consequences, with severe penalties. It is important to realise that people cannot violate the rules and that they must follow a responsible ethical conduct ", emphasizes the rector of the UC, João Gabriel Silva.

The Polish-American chemist Krzysztof Matyjaszewski, a leading researcher in the study of polymers, will receive a Doctor Honoris Causa degree from the University of Coimbra tomorrow. The ceremony will start at 10:30 am at Sala dos Grandes Atos (Sala dos Capelos) and will be broadcast live at uc.pt.

"Intelligent" insoles linked to two interfaces - a tablet and an online therapist-patient communication platform - are part of the SwitHome technology solution for home-based rehabilitation of patients who have suffered a stroke. This technology is the result of a collaboration between Instituto de Sistemas e Robótica (ISR) of the Faculty of Sciences of the UC and Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN).

The Centre for Social Studies of UC will join the European consortium PLUS - Platform Labour in Urban Spaces: Fairness, Welfare, Development, which analyses the main economic impacts of digital platforms at work. The project received funding of EUR 3 million from Horizon 2020.

Tomorrow, the auditorium of the Coimbra Hospital and University Centre will host Coimbra Innovation-days (i-Days). The event - in the frameworkd of the European network EITHealth - promotes innovation and entrepreneurship in the health field among undergraduates, graduates and post-Doc students and happens simultaneously in 21 HE European partners, such as Imperial College (London), Oxford University (London), and Karolinska Institute (Sweden).

We congratulate Rómulo Centro Ciência Viva da Universidade de Coimbra for its 10th anniversary. To celebrate the date, the colloquium "Science for All"will take place tomorrow at 10:30. In the afternoon the projects Rómulo Digital and Escola Ciência Viva will be presented. The day ends with a talk with the writer Afonso Cruz.

From tomorrow until Sunday there will be another edition of the International Fair of Minerals, Gems and Fossils of Coimbra. The event - organised by the Science Museum and the Department of Earth Sciences - will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Colégio de Jesus (free entrance). Visit the fair and enjoy lunch with us: on the 24th and 25th the University Restaurant of Colégio de Jesus will be open between 1 and 3 p.m. 

On Saturday, National Day of Scientific Culture, the Science Museum of the UC hosts a ceremony to deliver the 2018 Ciência Viva Montepio Awards. The session will be attended by the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor. The prizes are awardedevery year as recognition of outstanding merit in scientific and technological dissemination in Portugal.

Applications for the 10th edition of the "Young Entrepreneurs" Explorer programme  are open until 12 December. The Explorer programme offers training and mentoring, free of charge, to young people (18 to 31-years-old) who want to develop their business ideas.
