The Centre for Chinese Studies (CASS-UC) is already a reality at the University of Coimbra. It is the first centre of its kind to be established in Portugal and only the third in Europe, after Bordeaux and Helsinki. This is another important step in strengthening the ties between the UC and the People's Republic of China, one of the University's strategic priorities.

The electoral process for the student representatives at the General Council of the University of Coimbra is underway. The elections take place on 11 December and you can get to know the three candidate lists to represent the students of the 1st and 2nd cycles of studies and the two lists for the representative member of the 3rd cycle of study here.

Elections for the UC Senate will take place on 11 December. The representatives of the bodies of technicians (two members) and students (one for each teaching and research faculty) will be elected. Check out the whole process here.

Next week at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, two Full Professors will retire and conduct their last lectures:  12 December, 2h30pm, António Manuel Martins; 14 December, 2 pm, Nair de Nazaré Soares. (Anf. II - 4th floor).

On 11 December the auditorium of the Faculty of Law hosts the international conference "Universal Declaration of Human Rights - 70 Years". The conference will be attended by Ibrahim Salama, UN Chief of the Human Rights Treaties Branch, and Florence Benoît-Rohmer, honoraray President of Robert Schuman University (France).

Next Saturday, the 8th, there will be a homage mass to the patroness of the University of Coimbra, Immaculate Conception. The celebration takes place at St. Michael's chapel at noon.
