The University of Coimbra is the leading HEI in attracting international students in Portugal. Half of the approximately 13.5 million euros that public universities expect to receive in 2019 will come from the UC as a result of tuition fees from international students. These numbers prove the university's sustained growth and national leadership in the ability to attract foreign students, who are currently about 20% of students enrolled in the institution.

The University of Coimbra is studying the creation of a new access to the Joanina Library and the project will be authored by the architect Eduardo Souto Moura. At stake is the study of the area surrounding the library in order to develop a new qualified access to protect this important heritage.

A team of researchers of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra, together with other institutions, developed an innovative biodegradable guide tube for regeneration of the peripheral nerve after injuries. Once implanted in the patient, the polymer-based guide tube "will show the correct path so that the parts separated by the lesion (cut) can rejoin and resume their function," explains Jorge Coelho, coordinator of the study.

This year, the Social Services of the University of Coimbra will once again promote a Christmas dinner for displaced students. The event starts at 6 p.m. on the 24th at the university residence Pedro Nunes. The participation of students from various countries offers them the possibility of getting to know traditions and customs from several parts of the world.
