The University of Coimbra awarded merit grants to 40 international students with the best GPAs.


A research team of the Chemistry Centre of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra has developed and tested a set of gels with high capacity of remediation of environments contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons. The goal is to find "an innovative, low cost and alternative solution for the methods currently used in the recovery of environments contaminated with petroleum compounds," says researcher César Cavalcante Filho.


A research team of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra is part of the international project MED4Youth (Mediterranean enriched diet for tackling youth obesity), which aims to study the impact of the low energy Mediterranean diet on obese young people and cardiovascular diseases. The research received a funding of €93,815 from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology.


On 12 February, starting at 9 a.m., the Faculty of Economics will celebrate Sociology Day, with workshops, talks, and a conference conducted by Carlos Fortuna.


On 18 February the Casa Costa Alemão hosts the event "O Vento nas Cidades", promoted by CentroAdapt. The initiative promotes a debate on issues related to "mitigation and adaptation to climate change in natural ecosystems, challenges and associated opportunities". Registration is free but mandatory.


The Social Services of the University of Coimbra promote for the fifth year in a row, the Inter-Residences Tournament. The competition begins on 18 February, fostering the relationship and exchange of experiences among the students who inhabit the 14 UC student residences.


On 19 February, at 9:30 a.m., the Faculty of Sports Sciences and Physical Education celebrates its 27th anniversary with the opening of the Rui de Alarcão Auditorium, with the presence of the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, João Paulo Rebelo. Check the full programme here.


In the framework of the joint Doctoral Programmme in Education Psychology of the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of the UC and the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Lisbon, a study is being conducted on the well-being and positive experiences in young adults during their transition to the job market. The project, which is in the second phase, is addressed to students of all courses and those who have finished their degree less than a year ago.
