I earned my PhD in Economics from the University of Coimbra (Portugal), where my doctoral thesis, The (In)Stability of Creative Destruction, was awarded summa cum laude and received the prize for the best thesis defended in 2023 at the Faculty of Economics across all fields. I hold a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Economics, where I also serve as a researcher at the Centre for Business and Economics Research (CeBER).

Taking a pluralist approach, my research interests encompass technological progress, industrial dynamics, and income inequality. I have contributed to these fields through several publications in high-impact journals, presentations at first-rank international conferences, participation in three externally funded research projects, providing peer-review services for top journals, and teaching at the undergraduate and master's levels.

My current research agenda explores the relationship between technical change, institutions, industrial dynamics, and income distribution through the lens of long-wave theory. It is structured around five interconnected lines of inquiry: (1) innovation and technological revolutions; (2) firm-level technology; (3) competitive selection, rent-seeking, and market concentration; (4) industrial dynamics, automation, and labour market outcomes; and (5) democracy and development.

In addition, my experience in senior government positions in Ecuador, notably as the Undersecretary of State for Knowledge Strengthening, has provided me with valuable insights into the intersection of research and public policy. This background underscores my commitment to research that is not only academically rigorous but also relevant and impactful in addressing societal challenges.
