Apresentação


The seminar will be conducted by Joanna Felczak, at CES under Erasmus+ Staff Teaching Mobility Agreement.

During the lecture, the results of biographical research (diaries) conducted in Poland from the beginning of the pandemic will be presented in two stages: March-July 2020 and November 2020 - April 2021. This research was conducted by a team formed by researchers from two Polish universities, Warsaw School of Economics and Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun. The lecture will cover the following issues: research method, situation in Poland compared to Europe, coping strategies, changes in consumption, education and work from home during the crisis.


The analysis will be supported by selected examples concerning the daily functioning of citizens in Poland and will benefit from a compared perspective of the Portuguese case, introduced by the comments of Virgínia Ferreira.



Notas biográficas


Joanna Felczak - Assistant professor at the Institute of Social Economy Warsaw School of Economics. She specializes in issues related to social policy, psychology and the effectiveness of social services. Her latest research interests concern the issues of imprisonment, social readaptation of prisoners and problems of excluded groups. Recent publications cover the issues of recidivism factors, social work, the effectiveness of imprisonment and vocational education and changes in Polish society caused by the pandemic.


Virgínia Ferreira - Associate Professor of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra, Portugal, and researcher at the Center for Social Sciences. The common theme in her body of work is the analysis of how the social relationships between men and women in a society are shaped and re-shaped by various social processes and structures, namely: shifting economic and political conditions; technological revolution; labour market regulations, welfare state regimes and other societal institutions; and the attitudes, plans and behaviour of women and men in the domestic sphere. Using both qualitative and quantitative methods, her research has focused on the feminization of occupations, the changing patterns of sexual segregation of overall labour market and employment, and to the evolution of public and European equality policies. Member of the editorial board of national and international journals of social sciences and women's studies. Founding member of the Portuguese Association of Women's Studies. Since 2004, is a member of the European Commission Expert Group on Gender and Employment. Published work includes articles and essays in national and international periodicals and collective books.
