International selection procedure for the recruitment of one senior technician

ADAI - Associação para o Desenvolvimento da Aerodinâmica Industrial (Association for the Development of Industrial Aerodynamics) decided to open an international selection competition for a senior technician, within the scope of project Bio-Waste2Carbon (BW2C): Captura criogénica de carbono de gases de pós-combustão de resíduos florestais, funded by the European Fund for Regional Development (FEDER), through the Operational Program for Competitiveness and Internationalization and /or the Regional Operational Program of the Center, of Portugal 2030.
1. The successful candidate will be expected to carry out the following tasks:
a) Support the development and study of cryogenic CO2 capture prototypes and their critical components;
b) Support the development of experimental test rigs;
c) Write technical reports and scientific papers.
2. Type and contract duration
The temporary employment contract is expected to begin in September 2025. The hiring shall be performed under the Labor Code and other legislation applicable to individual labor contracts.
3. The selection Jury of the competition is composed as follows:
- Presidente – Professor Dr. João Pedro da Silva Pereira.
- 1st member– Professor Dr. José Manuel Baranda Moreira da Silva Ribeiro.
- 2nd member – Professor Dra. Tânia Ferreira
4. The work will be carried out under the scientific supervision of Dr João Pedro da Silva Pereira, within the framework of the activities of the Association for the Development of Industrial Aerodynamics of the Associated Laboratory for Energy, Transport and Aeronautics (ADAI-LAETA). The work sites are: i) the Industrial Aerodynamics Laboratory - LAI and ii) other sites that may be necessary to execute the work plan.
5. The monthly remuneration to be attributed is a gross value of 1653,10€. Benefits include a daily lunch subsidy of 6,00 Euros.
6. The competition is open to national, foreign, and stateless candidates who hold a master's degree in the field of Mechanical Engineering or similar. Candidates should preferably have knowledge of the forestry sector and have experience in research work involving modeling, data analysis, construction of experimental test rigs, carrying out laboratory and field tests, and a good knowledge of written and spoken English. They should also have the ability to organize tasks and identify priorities; the ability to analyze, identify, and solve problems; the ability to work with scientific, technical, and functional teams, ensuring alignment with the project's objectives; a spirit of initiative, continuous learning, and proactivity; communication skills and good interpersonal skills.
Candidates with graduations obtained abroad shall make proof that their degree was recognized by a Portuguese Higher Education Institution according to the applicable legislation. This document is mandatory for the application
7. Admissible applications will be scored on a scale of 1 to 100 on each of the following evaluation criteria:
- Curriculum Evaluation (AC) - 60%
- Interview (INT) - 40%
The AC criterion, with a total weight of 60% in the final score, is divided into the following subcriteria:
- AC (60%) = A1 (10%) + A2 (15%) + A3 (5%) + A4 (15%) + B (15%)
- Sub-criterion A1 - Scientific production;
- Sub-criterion A2 – participation in related research projects;
- Sub-criterion A3 - IT skills (MatLab, Solidworks, Labview, etc.);
- Sub-criterion A4 - Academic qualifications and final grades;
- Sub-criterion B - Merit of the letter of motivation.
The Interview criterion, with a total weight of 40% in the final score, is divided into the following subcriteria:
- INT (40%) = C1 (15%) + C2 (10%) + C3 (10%) + C4 (5%)
- Sub-criterion C1 - Knowledge related to the work;
- Sub-criterion C2 – Fluency of speech and capacity to convey ideas orally;
- Sub-criterion C3 - Command of the English language;
- Sub-criterion C4 - Behavior and politeness.
8. Minutes of the Jury meeting, including an evaluation report, are available to the candidates whenever requested.
9. After completing the application of the selection process, the Jury proceeds to draw up the ordered list of approved candidates with the respective classification.
10. If the selected candidate is not willing to occupy the position, the Jury can decide to invite the next eligible candidate in the ordered list.
11. The final deliberation of the Jury is approved by the Board of Directors of ADAI, which is also responsible for deciding on hiring.
12. Application procedure:
a) Application to the position is formalized by sending the following information addressed to the Jury President, reference of number of this position (given at the top of this document), full name, number and date of the Citizen’s card or civil ID, tax identification number, date and place of birth, residence and contact address, including e-mail address and telephone contact.
b) The application shall be accompanied by documents proving the conditions described in points 6 and 7 for admission to this selection process, in particular:
- - Detailed curriculum vitae (CV);
- - Certificate or diploma, including a list of courses and grades
- - Motivation letter, in which the candidate should explain their knowledge of the project area
- - List of publications, including DOI (digital object identifier) link and Journal (JCR) impact factor (when applicable).
- degree recognition by a Portuguese Higher Education Institution according to the applicable legislation, for all graduations obtained abroad.

13. Candidates who incorrectly formalize their application or do not give adequate proof of the requirements of this selection process are excluded from admission to the competition. The Jury has the power to require any candidate, in case of doubt, to present documents proving his statements
14. Candidates who do not obtain a final mark equal to or greater than 50% will not be allowed to fill any of the position in tender for lack of absolute merit
15. False statements by candidates shall be punished in accordance with the law
16. Admitted and excluded candidates will be notified of their inclusion or exclusion by email. The final classification of eligible candidates will be sent to each candidate by email with notification of receipt of delivery.
17. Prior hearing and deadline for the Final Decision: After being notified, the candidates have 10 working days to comment the decision. Within a maximum of 10 days from the deadline for prior hearing, the final decisions of the Jury will be given.
18. The present selection process is exclusively intended to fill the vacancy indicated and it is terminated when the final list of candidates is approved, and the advertised position is filled
