“Capture the Future”: a talent competition for young minds in decarbonization

Applications are open until June 11, 2025, for the “Capture the Future – not only CO₂, but talent” competition, launched under the R&D project BioWaste2Carbon (BW2C). This initiative challenges students and recent graduates to apply their knowledge in energy and environmental technologies, contributing to innovative solutions for CO₂ capture, transport, and storage.

Over the course of 3 months, selected participants will:

  • Support the construction and testing of experimental systems at the Thermodynamics Laboratory of the University of Coimbra, focusing on technologies such as combustion, Rankine cycles, cryogenic cooling, and particle separation in gas flows;

  • Develop and optimize technological solutions as part of a remote innovation challenge in August, integrated into the BW2C project;

  • Prepare technical reports and science communication materials based on their research and contributions.

In addition to receiving a monthly grant of €650, top performers will have the chance to win a €1,000 FNAC gift card and receive an official certificate.

The programme runs from July to September 2025, combining on-site activities (in Coimbra) and remote work.
