Project introduction

The Carpe Scholam! project was created in 2014 by professors Cláudia Cravo and Paula Dias. Its primary aim is to strengthen the ties between the Centre for Classical and Humanistic Studies (CECH) and primary and secondary education.

With a yearly updated programme, this project includes a wide range of initiatives from the Classical Studies group of the University of Coimbra. These initiatives are mostly aimed at primary primary and secondary schools in Portugal.

From 2015 to 2018, Cláudia Cravo was responsible for the project. However, from 2019 onwards, Susana Marques became its second coordinator.

This project includes a wide variety of lectures aimed at the entire school community, but especially at students in the 3rd cycle of basic education. In addition, several activities are scheduled as part of the Classical Theatre Festival (FESTEA), particularly the enactment of classical plays and the annual LVDI CONIMBRIGENSES.
