13 September 2018
Next Wednesday we welcome our new students with two major events: at 10:30 a.m., the Room of the Great Acts (Sala dos Atos Grandes) receives the Solemn Opening Ceremony of the Academic year, which will be broadcast live at uc.pt. At 5:00 p.m., the Botanical Garden welcomes freshmen students who will be invited to take a plant home and take care of it until it is replanted later. The UC.Plantas project aims to promote biodiversity and contribute to the recovery of forests. We have succeeded in turning the face-to-face enrollment process into a much more simple and enjoyable process for new students, without the long waits of the past and with a more personalised service. Scientist Jorge Paiva, (Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the UC), will receive the status of honorary member of the Portuguese Society of Ecology (SPECO). The distinction will be delivered tomorrow at 11:00 am in Colégio de São Bento, at FCTUC's Life Sciences Department, where the botanist and ecologist will conduct the lecture "Plate tectonics: phytogeographic testimonies" (“Tectónica de placas: testemunhos fitogeográficos”.) On September 26 Coimbra will host the Workshop on Knowledge Transfer and Strategies for the Promotion of Industrial Property (Capacitação em Transferência de Conhecimento e Estratégias de Valorização da Propriedade Industrial), a chance to acquire and upgrade skills in one of the most strategic areas nowadays. Registrations available here. “Caminhos" ("Paths") is the theme of the 21st UC Cultural Week, which will take place from March 1 to April 12 2019. Project proposals are open until October 1. Tomorrow night don't miss the tribute concert to Rui de Alarcão, former Rector of the UC at Paço das Escolas, by the Orquestra Clássica do Centro. The concert is part of the series "Serenatas com a Lua por perto". -------- Take a look at the numerous events happening at the University and in Coimbra:
