A research team of the Centre for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC) of the University of Coimbra (UC) has discovered a nanoparticle formulation that allows the release of two molecules in the treatment of ischemic diseases such as strokes. The finding, published in the journal "ACS Nano" and resulting from a five-year study, contributes to increase the survival time multiplication transplanted endothelial progenitor cells - which play an important role in the recovery of ischemic diseases. Congratulations to UC sports! At the 11th University Sports Gala, Francisca Laia was awarded as the female Athlete of the Year and the UC / AAC Canoe Team won the Team of the Year category. The EUG Coimbra 2018 educational programme was also honoured with the Sports Ethics Award and the general coordinator of the European University Games, Mario Santos, received the Prestige prize. The 38th Annual Congress of the Portuguese Society of Stomatology and Dental Medicine awarded two professors of the Faculty of Medicine of the UC, in the category "Clinical Cases". Tomorrow at 5:00 p.m., the Science Museum auditorium hosts the opening session of the postgraduate courses of the Faculty of Sports Sciences and Physical Education of the University of Coimbra. The session will be conducted by Neil Armstrong, Professor at the University of Exeter. From 25 to 27 October don't miss another edition of “Jornadas Mundos e Fundos - Mundos Metodológico e Interpretativo dos Fundos Musicais”, with colloquiums and concerts. Enjoy the last days of the French Cinema Festival at TAGV. The film Pedro e Inês (The dead Queen), by António Ferreira, premieres today. The film was shot in 2017 in several UNESCO World Heritage spaces of Coimbra. CEIS20 celebrates its 20th anniversary. To mark the date, the Centre offers a commemorative cycle, from 2 to 15 November, with an international congress (8 and 9 November.) Applications for the 2019 edition of the University of Coimbra Prize are open until 23 November.
