The calendar and process for the election the new Rector of the University of Coimbra were approved this Monday at a plenary meeting of the General Council. The application period is open until 7 January and on 4 February there will be a public hearing of the candidates, where their programmes will be discussed in a Q&Q session. The election of the new Rector will take place on 11 February 2019. At the meeting, the current Rector of the UC, João Gabriel Silva, made an assessment of the last two terms.

The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra is one of the partners of the HELP2 project. The programme, which has just received European funding of more than 300 thousand euros, aims to facilitate and simplify scientific communication in the health field by creating and developing learning programmes for a standardized language in the European context.

The anti-seismic solution for buildings created by the European project FREEDAM - FREE from DAMage Steel Connections, in which a team of researchers of the Department of Civil Engineering of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra participated, developed a product that will be marketed by the Italian company FIP Industriale. The research was carried out during the past three years and also involved the universities of Liège (Belgium), Naples and Salerno (Italy) as well as two industrial partners.

Tomorrow, at 10:00 a.m., the Keynes Room of the Faculty of Economics will host the launch of the book  “Estudos em Memória de Ana Maria Rodrigues”(Studies in Memory of Ana Maria Rodrigues). The work presents more than 20 texts by experts in the accounting and tax areas and is a tribute to the FEUC faculty member and researcher.

Saturday is International Antarctic Day. Tomorrow, at 3:00 p.m., Portuguese and Brazilian researchers will talk about their experience in the South Pole. “Entre pinguins e icebergues: Que ciência se faz da Antártida de tão especial?” is the theme of the session conducted by the UC researcher José Xavier at the Science Museum.

Next Sunday we celebrate the Day of the Faculty of Economics. The 46th anniversary celebration will be held in the auditorium of the Faculty starting at 2:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, the 5th, the Faculty of Law celebrates its 186th anniversary. The celebration activities start at 10:30 a.m (FDUC) and the formal sitting begins at 3:30 p.m in the auditorium of Colégio da Trindade.
