salmonelaAn international study led by researchers from the University of Coimbra (UC) discovered a new mechanism of infection specific to Salmonella. This mechanism may be important for the development of new therapeutic approaches to stop infections caused by this bacterium. 
A group of students from the University of Coimbra (UC) has developed an ecological lunchbox - The Cork Food Box - made of cork and a biopolymer (bioplastic) in collaboration with Amorim Cork Composites, a company of the Amorim group, world leader in the cork industry. The team was inspired by sustainable practices used in the past by agricultural workers in the Alentejo region.CORK
child_tabletStudy assesses the impact of electronic devices on Portuguese children's sleep: the research, which used data from 8,430 children aged between 3 and 10 years old, from private and public schools in the cities of Porto, Coimbra and Lisbon, reveals that the electronic devices available at home, especially in the bedroom, have significantly decreased children's sleep time. The full article was published in the scientific Journal "Sleep Magazine".

Research Infrastructures in Horizon Europe: new funding sources: the Institute of Interdisciplinary Research of the University of Coimbra has been organizing in the last year the Destiiinations initiative, aimed at the dissemination and promotion of funding opportunities included in Horizon Europe. In this context, the Strategic Areas of the University of Coimbra are promoting an online session on June 21st 2021 at 2.30pm, in order to present the framework programme dedicated to Scientific Infrastructures.
