| Study concludes that urban children have a great lack of knowledge about aquatic ecosystems and their biodiversity. The study focused on assessing the impact of an environmental project with children aged 6 to 10 (elementary school), which aims to educate children about the importance of urban streams, their biodiversity and services. | |

The proposal involves entering the frozen food market using packaging made from chitin, one of the most abounding polysaccharides on the planet. The group proposes the use of shellfish to create a 100% natural and 100% biodegradable packaging. | |

A Portuguese and French team, coordinated by Ivan Viegas, from the Centre for Functional Ecology of FCTUC, has successfully tested a new diet for aquaculture fish, using glycerol as an alternative ingredient, which may help to solve one of the major challenges of this business area. | |
| UC scientists discover cognitive mutations caused by a gene variant linked to intellectual disability. Genetic mutations associated with neurodevelopmental disorders, such as intellectual disability, are often found in genes that encode proteins present in the synapse, the communication structure between neurons in the brain. |
