Bachelors and Integrated Masters

• applicants do not have Portuguese nationality;
• applicants are not nationals of the European Union Member-States (check the list EU Member-States here) or, if so, do not possess habitual residence in that country;
• applicants are not relatives of Portuguese nationals or of nationals of a European Union Member State*;
• applicants have not legally resided in Portugal for more than two years, uninterruptedly, on the 1st of January of the year of admission, nor are children of parents in this situation**;
• applicants have not been granted (on the 1st of January of the year of admission) equality of rights and duties under an international treaty between the Portuguese State and the State of which the applicant is national;
• applicants have not requested admission through the special access and admission regimes regulated by the Decree-Law No. 393-A/99, of October 2, as amended by the Decree-Law No. 272/2009, of October 1;
• applicants are not students of the University of Coimbra through a programme of international mobility under exchange agreements.

• applicants have a qualification obtained in a country in which that qualification gives them the right to apply and be admitted to higher education in that country;
• applicants have a Portuguese secondary education diploma (for instance, obtained in a Portuguese school abroad) or a foreign legally equivalent qualification (click here to know the legally equivalent qualifications).

1. The enrolment in any 1st cycle or integrated master programme of the UC requires independent proficiency in the Portuguese language (B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

2. The international applicants who have only an intermediate level of proficiency in Portuguese (B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), may apply to this special call as long as they agree to enrol in an Annual Portuguese Language Course at UC as specified in point 5 below.

3. Exceptionally, international applicants without B1 level proficiency in Portuguese, may also apply as long as they agree to enrol in the Foundation Year Programme in Portuguese Language at UC before they enrol in the degree programme to which they applied:

• a) The enrolment in the course is subject to the payment of an additional fee as indicated in the tuition fees page.
• b) If the applicants are placed in the degree programme to which they applied for, they must proceed with the enrolment and pre-registration. This pre-registration is subject to the payment of a registration fee as indicated in the Fees and Other Charges page.
• c) The confirmation of registration is dependent on the achievement of the B1 level of proficiency in Portuguese;
• d) If the confirmation referred to in the sub-paragraph c) does not occur, the placement of the applicants is delayed one year, during which the applicants have to enrol in an Annual Portuguese Language Course; the actual registration in the degree programme is always subject to the approval of the applicants in the language course;
• e) The payment mentioned in sub-paragraph b) is transferred to the student account in the academic information system of UC and its reimbursement is not applicable;
• f) The balance of the student account in the academic information system of UC can be used by them to make any necessary payments to UC within a maximum time limit of 3 years;
• g) The applicants who are not able to have their registration confirmed, must make a new application to a new special call in case they're still interested in enrolling in the degree programme.

4. The applicants who have not followed their secondary education in Portuguese language must:

• a) Self-declare that they have B1 level proficiency in Portuguese or higher;
• b) Present a "DEPLE" (Elementary Diploma of Portuguese as a Foreign Language) or a B1 level certificate issued by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of UC (FLUC) or submit to a Portuguese language exam at FLUC. This exam is subject to the payment of a fee and shall take place in accordance with the calendar available in the page about the Portuguese language courses at FLUC.

5. The applicants who have not followed their secondary education in Portuguese and do not present a "DIPLE" (Intermediate Diploma of Portuguese as a Foreign Language, B2 level), or a B2 level certificate issued by FLUC, must agree to enrol in an Annual Portuguese Language Course:

• a) This course is lectured at FLUC and is subject to the payment of a fee;
• b) This course can be followed during the first year of the degree programme in which the applicants are registered;
• c) At the end of the first year, FLUC informs the academic services of UC about the achievement or non-achievement of the applicants regarding the B2 level of proficiency.

6. As long as the B2 level is not achieved, the applicants must re-enrol in the Portuguese language course until that level of proficiency is achieved.

7. The applicants who followed their secondary education in Portuguese may also be required to enrol in a B2 level course of Portuguese language if their proficiency level is deemed to be inferior:

• a) The enrolment in the course shall be suggested by the degree programme coordinator, even if that necessity is detected by other teacher;
• b) The applicants may ask to be submitted to an evaluation before they enrol in the degree programme;
• c) The evaluation referred to in sub-paragraph b) is subject to the payment of a fee.

1. Pre-requisites are capacities of functional, physical, sport, interpersonal, and vision nature, which are required by some degree programmes.

2. The applicants who are not able to present a proof of pre-requisites in the moment of the application must self-declare that they have them. The confirmation of those pre-requisites is done after the arrival of the students, upon appointment made by the university services, within the maximum time limit of three months after the start of the classes:

• a) The self-declaration implies that the applicants have read the specification referred to in sub-paragraph a) and that they're responsible for ensuring that they have the declared pre-requisites;
• b) The non-confirmation of the pre-requisites implies the cancellation of their registration in the degree programme to which they applied to;
• c) The initial payment associated with the enrolment and registration of the students (as indicated in the fees and other charges page) is not returned in the cases in which the registration is cancelled, under the terms of the sub-paragraph b), and that amount is transferred to the student account in the academic information system of UC;
• d) The balance of the student account in the academic information system of UC can be used by them to make any necessary payments to UC within a maximum time limit of 3 years.

3. The assessment of the prerequisites of Group B – Interpersonal Communication and Group D – Vision Capacity is carried out by a doctor registered with the Portuguese Medical Association or by the UC Medical Services; the assessment of the prerequisites of Group C - Functional, physical and sporting aptitude is carried out by the Faculty of Sports Sciences and Physical Education (FCDEF) and are subject to payment of a fee in accordance with the page on fees, charges and monthly payments.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Bioanalytical Sciences: Group B
• Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Pharmacy: Group B
• Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Sciences: Group H

• Integrated Master’s in Dentistry: Group A

Group A Prerequisites – Interpersonal Communication

1. Objectives and Nature of the Prerequisites

1.1 The Group A prerequisites aim to verify candidates' interpersonal communication skills, ensuring they meet the course requirements. Specifically, candidates must not have psychological, sensory, or motor impairments that severely affect their functional and interpersonal communication abilities to the extent that they hinder their own or others' learning.
1.2 As a selection prerequisite, the result is expressed as Fit or Not Fit and does not influence the calculation of the admission score.

Group B Prerequisites – Interpersonal Communication

1. Objectives and Nature of the Prerequisites

1.1 The Group B prerequisites aim to verify candidates' interpersonal communication skills, ensuring they meet the course requirements. Specifically, candidates must not have psychological, sensory, or motor impairments that severely affect their functional and interpersonal communication abilities to the extent that they hinder their own or others' learning.
1.2 As a selection prerequisite, the result is expressed as Fit or Not Fit and does not influence the calculation of the admission score.

2. Definitions

2.1. Candidates with Physical Disabilities

Individuals with permanent motor disabilities, congenital or acquired, who experience significant limitations in neuromuscular and movement-related functions. These limitations affect joint function, bone structure, muscles, mobility, and personal autonomy, requiring specialized educational support throughout their secondary or equivalent education.

2.2. Candidates with Sensory Disabilities

2.2.1. Permanent Bilateral Visual Impairment (Blindness or Low Vision)
Individuals with significant limitations in visual function or adjacent eye structures, leading to major difficulties in communication (reading and writing), orientation, mobility, and knowledge acquisition. These candidates required specialized educational support throughout their secondary or equivalent education.

2.2.2. Severe or Profound Bilateral Hearing Impairment
Individuals with significant auditory function limitations, leading to major difficulties in communication (reading and writing). Even when using hearing aids, they required specialized educational support throughout their secondary or equivalent education.

Group C Prerequisites – Functional, Physical, and Sports Aptitude

1. Objectives and Nature of the Prerequisites

1.1 The Group C prerequisites aim to verify candidates' functional, physical, and sports aptitude in accordance with the course requirements. The test consists of two parts: Functional Aptitude (A) and Physical Aptitude (B).
1.2 As a selection prerequisite, the result is expressed as Fit or Not Fit and does not influence the calculation of the admission score.

2. Requirements

2.1. Functional Aptitude

Candidates must provide medical certification confirming they are Fit, ensuring they meet the functional conditions necessary to pursue studies in Physical Education and Sports. The certification must confirm that the candidate has no restrictions on engaging in sports activities.

2.2. Physical Aptitude

Candidates must successfully complete the following practical tests:

• Athletics: Long jump and endurance running
• Swimming: Completion of 50 meters using one of the four competitive swimming techniques and a front-facing starting dive
• Gymnastics: A floor routine and a vault test
• Team Sports: Two sports chosen from the following: handball, basketball, soccer, volleyball

Note: Candidates are considered Fit if they successfully complete all tests.

Group D Prerequisites – Vision Ability

1. Objectives and Nature of the Prerequisites

1.1 The Group D prerequisites aim to verify candidates' vision capacity and their ability to perceive shapes and colors, ensuring they meet the course requirements.
1.2 As a selection prerequisite, the result is expressed as Fit or Not Fit and does not influence the calculation of the admission score.

Group H Prerequisites – Functional, Physical, and Sports Aptitude

1. Objectives and Nature of the Prerequisites

1.1 The Group H prerequisites aim to verify the candidates' robustness and basic technical skills necessary for conducting specialized sports training and teaching.
1.2 Candidates deemed Fit under Group C prerequisites are also considered Fit under Group H prerequisites. Candidates without special educational needs who are deemed Fit under Group H prerequisites may request the corresponding certification for Group C prerequisites from the institutions in this group.

1. Copy of Identity Document (Passport/ Foreign Identity Card)

2. Declaration on honour*, signed by the applicant, stating that he/she has not the Portuguese nationality, nor falls under any of the conditions that prevent him/her from applying to this competition, and that he/she has the necessary degree programme pre-requisites (when applicable) (MANDATORY)

3. "DEPLE" diploma (Elementary Diploma of Portuguese as a Foreign Language) or a B1 level certificate issued by Faculty of Arts and Humanities of UC; or a self-declaration* stating that the applicant has B1 level proficiency in Portuguese (MANDATORY whenever the applicant has not followed the secondary education in Portuguese and has or considers to have the B1 level)

4. "DIPLE" diploma (Intermediate Diploma of Portuguese as a Foreign Language) or a B2 level certificate issued by Faculty of Arts and Humanities of UC; or a self-declaration* stating that the applicant has B2 level proficiency in Portuguese (MANDATORY whenever the applicant has not followed the secondary education in Portuguese and has or considers to have the B2 level)

5. Document certifying the completion of the Portuguese secondary education (or equivalent) or a document certifying the completion of the Brazilian secondary education or other foreign secondary education qualification that gives access to higher education in the country in which it was obtained. The latter shall be validated by the competent authority of that country (usually the Official Education Services). (MANDATORY)

6. Document with the classifications (grades) obtained in the final exams of the ENEM, A-Level General Certificate of Education**, IB**, Macao Joint Admission Examination**, Gaokao**, Liankao** or in the Portuguese secondary education (“ENES”), which correspond to the admission exams for those holding a Portuguese secondary education diploma or for those holding a foreign secondary education diploma, who have made those Portuguese exams as self-proposed students. (MANDATORY when applicable)

The documents referred to in paragraphs 5 and 6 shall be translated whenever they're not issued in Portuguese, English, French or Spanish. All of them have to be validated by the Consular Service or presented with the apostille of the Hague Convention affixed by the competent authority of the State that issued the document. This last procedure may not be available in all countries for exams marked with **. If that is the case, please contact Academic Services of UC to know what to do.

1. The ranking of the applications is done on a decreasing ranking order using the final classification (grade).

2. The final grade corresponds to the sum of the grades obtained in the admission exams, multiplied by the respective weighting factors.

Application fee

Candidates must pay the contest entry fee through InforEstudante.

Registration fee:

The registration fee includes school insurance and is payable annually at the beginning of each academic year.The application fee is charged for the contest and ranking of candidates through InforEstudante, and is not refunded in case of invalidation of the application, withdrawal or non-placement.

Note:

According to the Academic Regulation of the University of Coimbra (RAUC), no. 805-A/2020, of 24 September, article 201, the academic fee (or tuition fee) of the international bachelor's/integrated master's student at the University of Coimbra is €7000 per year, paid in 12 monthly instalments.

The integrated master's degree in Medicine has an academic fee of €18000 per year, paid in 12 monthly instalments.

In the year of enrolment and registration, the first instalment of tuition fees is 25% of the tuition fee, with the remaining amount being distributed over eleven instalments, the first due on the last day of October and the remaining on the last day of the following months until August.

This amount is non-refundable, even in the event of withdrawal of registration, under the terms of article 201, paragraph 7 of the RAUC. At the time of the 1st instalment, the registration fee of €20 is also charged, which includes school insurance.
