Ph.D. student in Sustainable Energy Systems of the Initiative EfS at the University of Coimbra (UC), was distinguished by the Portuguese Association of Energy Economics (APEEN)
On February 4, 2022, Marcos Tenente, researcher at INESC-Coimbra, and Ph.D. student in Sustainable Energy Systems, of the Initiative EfS at the University of Coimbra, was awarded "the Young Investigator Award" by the Portuguese Economics Association Energy (APEEN) affiliate of the International Association for Energy Economics.
The award recognizes the article "Eco-efficiency assessment of the electricity sector: Evidence from 28 European Union countries", published in the journal Economic Analysis and Policy in co-authorship with Carla Henriques and Patrícia Pereira da Silva, researchers at INESCC and CeBER , professors at ISCAC and at the Faculty of Economics respectively. The study, in the area of sustainability, assesses the eco-efficiency of the consumption and production value chains of the electricity sector in the European Union. Overall, it can be concluded that the countries which promoted the efficient deployment of renewable energies, gradually dismantled the production of fossil fuels, reinforced their potential in terms of eco-efficiency, reduced emissions produced by the electricity sector, and stimulated the growth of the added value created by it.
